Moving on from Brooks doesn’t benefit the Philadelphia Eagles financially.

Brandon Brooks is one of the best right guards when he’s healthy. He just has to stay healthy, but from a financial perspective, there isn’t much of a reason to move him. According to Over the Cap, if Brooks is traded, and if that trade occurs before June 1st, Philly would only save $2.3 million. Brooks would also represent $12.2 million in dead money. What’s that phrase? Oh, that’s right! “It’s cheaper to keep them”!

The Eagles have been burned by getting locked into contracts with old guys. They’ve also gone from being a team that moves on from players one year too early to become a team that moves on from players one year too late.

In the end, it’s ridiculous to say trading Zach Ertz is a great idea but thinking about trading Brandon Brooks isn’t, but when all areas of this one are considered, again, the Philadelphia Eagles can’t afford to trade Brooks from a performance or financial lens. Expect to see him back on the playing field in 2021 (maybe).
