2011: Offensive guard Danny Watkins, Philadelphia Eagles

This year, the Philadelphia Eagles’ decision to select Danny Watkins is officially ten years old, but it’s a decision that still puzzles Eagles fans to this day. It’s one thing to select an offensive guard in the first round, but it’s another to select a former Canadian football player who was 26 years old when his name was called.

From the very beginning, it was clear that Danny Watkins was a bust. While he had the physical attributes to be a quality starter, he just couldn’t piece it together. Instead, Watkins followed his true passion: firefighting. From a young age, Watkins made it obvious that he had a passion for fighting fires, and there was even some speculation that he was fighting fires while rostered on this Philadelphia Eagles team.

Danny Watkins now lives in the suburbs of Dallas as, you guessed it, a firefighter. While it’s great that Watkins is content with his life, this doesn’t change the fact that this pick was botched. The responsibility of this team’s brass is to draft quality football players, not quality firefighters. Watkins played two seasons with the Eagles before being released. That alone justifies the failing grade. Grade: F
