2014: DE Marcus Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

While the Philadelphia Eagles had some great selections in the first four years of the Roseman era, the team struck out on a lot of picks over the course of the next few years. Marcus Smith, however, is more than just your typical strikeout. He’s an 0-2 take on a fastball that’s right down the middle kind of strikeout.

Smith played three seasons with the Eagles, but he failed to start in a single game for the Birds. We’re talking about a 26th overall pick that didn’t start a single game in his career and registered four sacks in three years with the Eagles.

The Eagles GM took responsibility for this pick, as he should have. Chip Kelly wanted Jordan Matthews in the first round, but Roseman traded back and reached on Marcus Smith.  This dysfunction caused Howie Roseman to be demoted. Chip Kelly handled the player selection and personnel in 2015, while Roseman was in charge of handling the salary cap and contract negotiations. Grade: F
