2016: QB Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles

The credit or blame for the Nelson Agholor selection can’t be given to Howie Roseman, so we’ll move on to 2016.

Where do we even begin with Carson Wentz? For one, the Eagles gave up many assets to acquire him in the first place. Howie Roseman made it clear that the Eagles were done with mediocre quarterbacks such as Nick Foles and Sam Bradford, and that the team wanted to secure its franchise quarterback.

Ah, franchise quarterback.

The legacy of Wentz will be attached with the word ‘unpredictability’. In that illustrious 2017 season, he was an MVP candidate, but in 2020, he was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league and got replaced by Jalen Hurts. The team had enough rides on the Carson Wentz rollercoaster and decided to, rightfully so, ship him to Indianapolis.

Still, without Wentz, the Eagles would not have a Super Bowl trophy and for that, Eagles fans should be thankful. Roseman was correct in trading up for Wentz and the Lombardi Trophy sitting in the Philadelphia locker room is direct evidence of this.

Let’s not let recency bias fool us here. Carson Wentz gave Philadelphia some memorable years and was the right pick by Howie Roseman. Grade: B+
