Derek Barnett just might not be the guy the Philadelphia Eagles hoped he would be.

It’s never a good thing to write off a former first-round pick, so writing this about Derek Barnett is a bit awkward.

Considered one of the best pass-rushers to ever do it in the SEC, Barnett came to the Philadelphia Eagles with a ton of confidence. He has flashed from time to time and has moments where he looked like the guy they have expected but for the most part, Barnett just hasn’t been the dominant force Eagles fans have been wanting. That, and the addition of underrated pass-rusher Tarron Jackson, could lead to the front office moving on.

What you’re thinking is obvious “How can we trust a sixth-round pick to take over?” Well, the former Coastal Carolina edge defender is no normal sixth-round prospect. The six-foot-two 260-pound product has all the tools and the tenacity to be a legit star in the National Football League.

A complete monster coming off the edge, the former Chant has the ability to play both inside and out, and has the football intelligence to set up opposing offenses. Forget about his draft status, the Eagles have a diamond in the rough with Jackson, and he could shine if given the chance.
