The Philadelphia Eagles get the Niners again, this time in Philly.

As bad as the 2020 season was for the Philadelphia Eagles and as hard as every game was to watch from time to time, there were a few highlights. Perhaps none were more uplifting than the Eagles’ Week 4 win in primetime on Sunday Night Football versus the San Francisco 49ers.

That one gave the Birds’ fans hope, but unfortunately, Philly would give the NFL’s most loyal fanbase more heartache than joy over the 13 weeks that followed.

Now, in 2021 for the second time in two seasons, the Birds are scheduled for an early-season squabble with the Niners. The question is this. Will San Francisco be led by Trey Lance or Jimmy Garoppolo? That may make the difference in how this one goes.

We all know that the Niners’ coach, Kyle Shanahan, is a genius. He’s been a bit of a quarterback whisperer during his career. Maybe he can get an oft-injured Garoppolo or a rookie, Trey Lance, up to speed by Week 2, but a successful argument can also be made about why he won’t be able to do so in either case.

This one’s at Lincoln Financial Field, and that might be all that it takes to lift the Birds to a narrow win, especially early in the season.

Final score: Eagles 24, Niners 20 (2021-2022 Eagles record: 1-1)
