. . . Anthony Harris, safety. . player. 54

A new city and motivation could lead to big things for this Philadelphia Eagles star.

There was an intense desire to begin this list of three great Eagles with the mention of a dark horse. It came down to a coin flip between two guys,  believe it or not, a linebacker made the cut as did safety Anthony Harris. Here’s why Harris got the nod.

This six-foot-one, 202-pound free safety is in a new city on a one-year deal, and he’s coming off of two great seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. In 2019, he was the NFL’s co-leader in interceptions. In 2020, he racked up more than 100 tackles, 104 to be exact as he started all 16 games.

Fans can never discount what motivation does to someone, and Harris has plenty of that. Fans can expect to see a combination of what they saw from him over the past two seasons. He should be all over the field and bringing ball carriers down.

Harris is also someone that can shift momentum with timely turnovers. It will be fun to watch both he and Rodney McLeod working together at safety, but to make long stories short, Philly has two primetime games on the schedule and three more tilts that will kick off after 4 P.M. EST. Fans will get to see the Birds play a lot.

That means more exposure for this Eagles defense and the guys on it. Expect to hear Harris’s name a lot as we move through the season.
