Philadelphia Eagles veterans who might be surprisingly cut this Summer
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Craig James
Though some of you might not see a Philadelphia Eagles decision to leave Craig James off of the roster as a ‘surprise’, this is one of the guys that we sometimes just assume will be around, right? He’s probably never going to start if he is here unless there’s an emergency, but he’s familiar with Philly, and Philly is familiar with him.
He’s like a fire extinguisher. You simply break the glass in an emergency, but there is something else to consider. It was the Eagles’ last coaching staff that had the loyalty and comradery with James, not this one.
The addition of Steven Nelson seemingly makes a couple of guys on this roster at the cornerback position expendable. There will be a lot to work out as we move through August.
Nelson, Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, and Zech McPhearson will make this roster. The Birds figure to carry six cornerbacks.
James might be along the same tier from a depth chart perspective as Kevon Seymour is. He should also seemingly have an edge on guys like Lavert Hill, Michael Jacquet, and Josiah Scott. You never know though. That’s why teams play preseason games.
Here’s where the Inside The Iggles staff is on the subject. Most of us believe that Craig James will make the roster, but if he doesn’t it shouldn’t be too terribly surprising.
