Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Michael Jacquet

The Philadelphia Eagles currently have nine cornerbacks on the roster: Lavert Hill, Michael Jacquet, Craig James, Avonte Maddox, Zech McPhearson, Steven Nelson, Josiah Scott, Kevon Seymour, Darius Slay. Here are the locks to make the roster: Slay, Nelson, Maddox, McPhearson. The question then becomes whether or not Philly takes five or six cornerbacks into the regular season on the 53-man roster.

Some believe the play would be to employ six. Others say that, seeing as how the Birds have a few safeties that can drop down and play the slot cornerback position (K’Von Wallace for example), that taking five cornerbacks into the regular season makes more sense.

The next man on the depth chart behind Slay, Nelson, Maddox, and McPhearson is Craig James. Michael Jacquet, Josiah Scott, and Kevon Seymour are all on the bubble, but if Philly keeps five cornerbacks, a very real possibility, we all can probably assume that Jacquet’s run in the City of Brotherly Love is over.

Why? It’s simple. It’s because there’s no guarantee that Jacquet is the sixth cornerback on Philly’s depth chart anyway.
