Five 49ers on offense the Philadelphia Eagles must account for

Trey Lance, quarterback

Typically, the rotating quarterback thing never works. Philadelphia Eagles fans have learned that a time or two with whatever that was Doug Pederson was doing with Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts and, before that, with Andy Reid’s Donovan McNabb/Michael Vick experiment. Buddy Ryan even tried it once when he had Ron Jaworski and tried to turn Randall Cunningham into a third-down quarterback.

In fairness, there have also been success stories (Taysom Hill and Drew Brees). Philly will see Trey Lance in Week 2, and they better be ready. This game can come down to one play. Wouldn’t it be a nightmare if Lance was the guy to orchestrate it?

Elijah Mitchell, running back

Elijah Mitchell was a monster during Week 1 in Raheem Mostert’s absence with 104 yards on 19 carries. Keep both eyes on him in Week 2.

Trent Sherfield, wide receiver

Trent Sherfield hauled in a touchdown reception in Week 1. If Philly isn’t careful, he’ll snag another in Week 2.

George Kittle, tight end

Here’s someone that needs no introduction. George Kittle is one of the game’s top two tight ends. Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is the other.

Deebo Samuel, wide receiver

A big play waiting to happen, Deebo Samuel, was one of the best and most productive wide receivers in all of the NFL during Week 1’s slate of games with 189 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions. He’ll keep Darius Slay or Steven Nelson (or both) busy all season.
