3 Philadelphia Eagles to watch on defense

Fletcher Cox, defensive tackle

Fletcher Cox didn’t log a single defensive stat in Week 1, and frankly, there are times, regardless of how talented he is, when he doesn’t seem to be totally involved in what’s going on, especially when he’s double-teamed.

You know what though? That C on Cox’s chest and that huge salary that ensures his grandchildren may never have to work for someone else (unless they just want to) means that as great as he’s capable of being when he’s engaged, Number 91 must dig even deeper now.

Steven Nelson, cornerback

Darius Slay will draw the assignment of Amari Cooper, more than likely, for the majority of the afternoon. He’ll need to be brilliant, and Steven Nelson needs to be equally so on the other side of the defensive formation.

Eric Wilson, linebacker

Games like these are why Eric Wilson was brought to this Philadelphia Eagles team in the first place. If the Birds are to pull this one out, the second level of their defense will need to play lights out. In all honesty, their inability to do so in years past has, at times, been why the pendulum has shifted in the Cowboys’ favor. Let’s hope he and Alex Singleton are ready.
