Philadelphia Eagles potential draft targets: Charlie Kolar, Iowa State

Earlier, you read that Jake Ferguson would be someone we’d place in some pretty heavy draft conversations if he played in the SEC. Throw Charlie Kolar in that same conversation as well.

Coming into the 2021 NCAA football season, he had appeared in 31 games and hauled in 106 receptions for 1,425 yards and 17 touchdowns. After his first four games of the 2021 season, it was more of the same. Try 17 receptions for 238 yards and two touchdowns on for size.

The best draft talent often comes from the Southeastern Conference. Everyone knows that. If Kolar had decided to play his football in the south, we’d be saying things like he’s a potential Second-Team All-SEC candidate. Why? Because the next guy would be on the first team.

Place Jalen Wydermyer at the head of the class as college football’s valedictorian of the coming 2022 NFL Draft class’s tight end position. He’s six-foot-five. He tips the scales at 255 pounds, and versus some of the best defensive competition in the country, at the time of this story being written and published, he’s already eclipsed 1,200 yards receiving and 14 receiving touchdowns.

Here’s something else to consider. He did that in 26 games. We’re a long way from April, but if everything continues as is, he’ll be the first tight end off of everyone’s draft board by the time we reach day one of the NFL Draft.
