Eagles Mock Draft: 5 first-round targets for Philadelphia
Eagles 2022 draft prospect Matt Corral
Some might be able to enunciate a successful argument that, there’s no reason to draft Matt Corral and that he doesn’t provide any more upside than Jalen Hurts does, that maybe Philly should simply eschew drafting a quarterback in Round 1 to address the needs of every other position. There are also successful arguments that can be made for cranking up the Quarterback Factory just one more time in 2022 and using one of the Eagles’ first-round picks on the SEC’s best signal-caller.
With the way that he’s utilized in Lane Kiffin’s offense at Ole Miss with the rebels, there are times when it is difficult to look at Corral and analyze whether or not we’re looking at the next great NFL quarterback. Ask yourselves three questions though.
The first one is this. If getting the quarterback position right is the most important step to take in building a winning franchise, how can the Eagles possibly ignore a talent like Matt Corral if they aren’t sold on Hurts?
Secondly, if the season were to end today, the Houston Texans, New York Giants, and the Washington Football team would own top ten draft choices (and the Giants would have two of them). Who’s to say Corral would be available when the Birds are ready to take him? Maybe the decision will be made for them.
For the sake of argument, however, let’s just assume that Philly goes with Kyle Hamilton with their first choice and Corral does, indeed, fall to them with their second. Sure, we can ask questions like ‘what if Corral isn’t better than Jalen Hurts’? Perhaps, however, we should be asking another (and this is our third question). What if he is?
