The Philadelphia Eagles are a long way from the days of old in their secondary.

Stay: Avonte Maddox, cornerback

Quietly, and seemingly out of nowhere, Avonte Maddox has become one of the better contributors on this Philadelphia Eagles defense. He seems to have found his stride. This is an extension the Birds may need to hammer out.

Stay: Zech McPhearson, cornerback

The Eagles probably should have selected a cornerback in the 2021 NFL Draft before they did, but hey. What are you going to do? Zech McPhearson isn’t quite ready for primetime yet, but don’t give up on him yet. He can be good for this defense. If you doubt that, just wait and see.

Stay: Steven Nelson

The Eagles, at long last, have a pair of corners that can actually make the opposing team’s passing attack respect them. Now, the Birds just need some depth and for their defensive coordinator to stop handcuffing them. Come on Jonathan Gannon! Let these guys compete! You have all of these stars on the roster.

Stay: Darius Slay, cornerback

The big plays are back for one Darius Slay, pun intended. Slay has two more years left on the deal that he signed on March 20th of 2020 after his restructure, but after showing no signs of decline in 2021 so far, he may have driven a wedge in that revolving door the Eagles had at cornerback.

Stay: Marcus Epps, safety

He’ll never be Brian Dawkins. Heck, he may never become Quintin Mikell, but Marcus Epps doesn’t make us sick when we watch him play football. That has to count for something.

Stay: Rodney McLeod, safety

The Eagles need veteran leadership on the roster for the rest of this season and the 2022 regular season. Rodney McLeod gives them that in abundance.
