How about a round of applause for the Philadelphia Eagles defense?

We saw six sacks, a forced fumble, a defensive score, and 228 total yards by the Lions’ offense. The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense balled out.

Jonathan Gannon let his guys play aggressively as opposed to passively. The results were extraordinary. Beat the drum about how the Birds played the league’s worst team all that you want, the Lions are still an NFL team.

No, the Philadelphia Eagles shouldn’t lose their minds and get overconfident. They should still be proud of their performance in this one though. Here are a few notes on Week 8’s dominating performance.

1. Josh Sweat isn’t washed up after all.

Josh Sweat‘s decline has been grossly exaggerated. Sure he was in a slump of sorts, but he’s too talented not to make plays eventually, especially if he’s placed in the right situations.

In Week 8, he tallied four tackles, including two for a loss of yardage and three of the solo variety. He also led the way with two sacks. The Eagles finally made a wise personnel decision by giving him an extension.
