Jalen Hurts’ final grades for Week 9

Jalen Hurts’ accuracy, at times, can be lacking as you know. Don’t confuse said accuracy (or lack thereof) for an inability to see the field properly.

Truthfully, he does see the field pretty well. Often, he will make the right decisions. Oftentimes, the problem has come in that second or two in which a decision is made, the ball is delivered, and where the ball winds up being placed.

There are times in which Hurts has abandoned the pocket too early. There are times in which he’ll make the wrong read and miss someone who is running wide open. Such is life for a quarterback that has some ability but still has a ways to go.

What scares people about Hurts is this, and this is a serious question. Can a quarterback be taught how to throw the ball accurately? That will tell the tale of whether or not QB1 grows into a difference-maker.

He understands what needs to be done. Just listen to how he describes the misses to Goedert and Smith. On one, he stated his drop should be deeper. On the other, he stated he should have set instead of back-peddling. The mental reps will continue. Improvement will come, but for now, despite a loss, if you evaluate Hurts’ Week 9 performance as a singular event, you have to give him passing grades.
