5 oldest NFL players to ever wear a Philadelphia Eagles uniform
Lee Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles punter (2009)
Age: 41 years, 1.7 months
For most NFL aficionados, if you even know who Lee Johnson is, you probably don’t think of him as a member of the Eagles. After all, he did spend 11 of his 18 NFL seasons with the Bengals in Cincinnati, but in 2002, a young Eagles team that was still in the infancy of Andy Reid’s era found itself in need of a punter and went the route of signing Johnson.
It’s probably a safe bet to state that, when thinking of the 2002 Philadelphia Eagles, other thoughts come to mind: ten Pro Bowlers, five Second-Team All-Pros, two First-Team All-Pros, a trip to a second-consecutive NFC Championship Game, one that doubled as the final game that would ever be played in Veteran’s Stadium for this Eagles franchise.
Johnson is a part of that story too. He appeared in two regular-season games, notched 14 punts for 523 yards (a 37.4 average), and got stronger as the season went on, adding another 12 boots for 486 yards in the postseason. That’s a 40.5 average thanks in part to a 64-yard bomb that he has to his credit.
Ultimately, Philly would lose the final game at the Vet to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Still, upon his appearance, Johnson, though he probably wasn’t thinking about this at the time, was 41 years of age, and that guys and gals earns him a spot on the list of the oldest players to ever wear an Eagles jersey into battle.
