5 Jets on defense the Eagles must account for

Hopefully, the Eagles can crack out more than seven points in their second trip to MetLife Stadium in as many weeks. Here are some of the Jets’ stars on defense.

C.J. Mosley, linebacker

Some thought CJ Mosley‘s best and most productive days were behind him. After spending five seasons in Baltimore with the Ravens (2014, 2016–2018) and earning four Pro Bowl nods in the process, the Jets, on March 15th of 2019, inked him to a five-year, $85 million deal.

A trip to the injured reserve in 2019 and a decision to sit out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19 concerns, shall we say, delayed his contribution, but he’s back in a major way. So far, he has 88 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble through ten games.

Ashtyn Davis, safety

Here’s someone that should be fun to watch. A third-round selection of the Jets in 2020, Ashtyn Davis appeared in 18 games with 12 starts, racking up 79 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and an interception in that time frame. The Eagles will want to know where he is at all times.

Bryce Hall, cornerback

These days, outside of DeVonta Smith, the Eagles aren’t getting much from their young wide receiver corps, but it should still be interesting to see how they match up versus Bryce Hall, Isaiah Dunn, and Michael Carter II. Bryce Hall leads that group in solo tackles.

Quinnen Williams, defensive tackle

Heading into the Thursday leading up to the game, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and defensive end John Franklin-Myers were both questionable. Former Eagles Vinny Curry is also out which means DT Quinnen Williams and DE Shaq Lawson are charged with wreaking havoc for the Jets in the trenches. Let’s hope they’re unsuccessful.

Elijah Riley, safety

There isn’t a member of this Eagles team or anyone on the coaching staff that doesn’t love Elijah Riley. The Jets poached the former Bird from Philly’s practice squad on November 9th, and he’s done well with the opportunity, playing 109 defensive snaps in two games and earning 11 tackles in the process. He should be pretty pumped about playing his former team though nobody ever seems to want to admit that.
