JJAW offers Philadelphia Eagles help in the run game, on special teams.

Before you laugh, I am not making the case for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to have a breakout four-game stretch and play like a second-round wideout. That would be something else though.

This is specifically in regards to JJAW’s new role as a blocker and special teamer which has already helped the Eagles. Whether it’s blocking on bubble screens in trips formations or lining up as a wing tight end, he has created room to run for these playmakers.

Since JJAW has been used exclusively as a blocker, there could be opportunities off of play-action as mentioned with Tyree Jackson. They’ve already done it twice.

The first time was versus the Saints on a split zone-read play-action pass. JJAW was on the outside in a condensed formation. Pre-snap it looked like he would help seal the edge on split zone.

He ran to the area but instead stopped on a simple stick-out concept which turned into a 23-yard gain. The second time was against the Giants off of what looked like a split zone lead play for Jalen Hurts with JJAW as the lead blocker. Hurts sold the run initially and JJAW ran towards the end man on the line of scrimmage before releasing into space for a 13-yard catch.

In addition, his special teams ability has helped greatly. He has come close to blocking a couple of punts and has helped with punt and kickoff coverage often forcing return men into a swarm of defenders. He has also helped keep Arryn Siposs’ punts from being touched.
