Jeff Garcia leads the Eagles to a win punctuated by a heart-stopping finish.

There have been some characters that have worn the number 7 jersey in Philadelphia. There was Michael Vick of course. There was the Polish Rifle, Ron Jaworski. We don’t often bring up the accomplishments of Jeff Garcia, but maybe we should. After all, he did help save the Eagles season in 2006.

Following a Week 11 season-ending torn ACL suffered by Donovan McNabb, Garcia stepped in and played admirably in that game’s loss to the Tennessee Titans before doing all that he could with a two-touchdown performance in a blowout loss to a superior Indianapolis Colts team one week later.

That’s when the light bulb came on. Jeff led Philly to five straight wins to close the season (including a 23-7 beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys in Texas Stadium on Christmas) that helped the Birds earn a Wild Card berth.

That was a wild affair versus the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. This one was wildly entertaining, and the best part about it was the right team won. David Akers, who we think deserves a Pro Football Hall of Fame nod, booted one through from 38 yards out as time expired.

Yep! That was a great day to be an Eagles fan.
