Middle-round to late-round QB prospects Eagles could target in NFL Draft
Potential Eagles draft prospect Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati Bearcats)
Heading into the 2021 NCAA football season, Desmond Ridder was the owner of one of those names we kept mentioning among what we thought were the best quarterback prospects ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft. Following the Cincinnati Bearcats’ loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, a loss in which he was outplayed by the Heisman Trophy winner, Bryce Young, a sophomore, much of that seems to have calmed some.
It’s okay. Ridder hadn’t seen that level of competition all season while playing in the American Athletic Conference, which was another concern, but after tallying just under a 65-percent completion percentage and 3,334 passing yards with 30 touchdowns versus only eight interceptions, a nice combine and offseason could result in some more of that buzz a draft always brings.
Potential Eagles draft prospect Carson Strong (Nevada Wolf Pack)
Here’s who many of us believe to be the top signal-callers in this draft class: Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh), Sam Howell (UNC), Malik Willis (Liberty), and Matt Corral (Ole Miss). No one knows when those guys will be taken. Some of them might wind up being second-rounders, but the fifth QB off of the board might be Carson Strong of the Nevada Wolf Pack. The question is how early that might be.
Strong could wind up being a mid-rounder, but there’s a possibility that he might rise. At the end of his final season with Nevada, he completed 70 percent of his passes. He also threw for 4,186 yards and 36 TDs versus only eight interceptions.
His level of competition wasn’t elite, but the Birds would be wise to show some interest. He just won’t be able to wear the number 12 jersey if the Eagles take a flier on him.
