. . Ahmad Gardner, Cincinnati. 3. player. 830.

Ahmad Gardner gives the Eagles their other outside cornerback.

We mentioned the Eagles’ lack of dedication to finding solid cornerback options earlier. Here’s a minute detail that wasn’t mentioned but one that you probably already picked up on. The Birds haven’t taken a cornerback in the first round of any selection meeting in a while. You have to go back to 2002 when Lito Sheppard was the choice.

There’s also this to consider. Seeing as how they’ve only taken four corners in the past five NFL Drafts, it doesn’t take much effort to see why there always seems to be holes in the secondary.

Some arguments support Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner being drafted early in Round 1. The New York Jets might wind up having some interest. The same can be said for about two other teams. You can also make successful arguments for why he’ll go later in the first round.

The point is this. There’s a huge chance that, by the time we reach the midpoint of the draft’s first night, Gardner will still be on the board and available to the Eagles if they decide they want to pull the trigger. If they do, they may have finally answered the questions about who they can slide into the starting lineup to start on the opposite side of 2021 Pro Bowler, Darius Slay.
