Best Eagles options now that Russell Wilson is off the table
The Eagles could still add quarterbacks in the draft and free agency.
Teams seem to be robbing free agency’s pool of some pretty big fish. You may not have noticed at first with all of the Wilson and Rodgers news, but it appears Chris Godwin, Davante Adams, and Mike Williams will stay put and remain with their respective teams.
There are questions to ask about the quarterbacks though. We could see guys like Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, and Andy Dalton on the move, but are any of those guys upgrades for Jalen Hurts? It’s hard to say, isn’t it?
Let’s say it again. Finding a franchise quarterback can be a tough task. Think about it. Bridgewater was a first-rounder. Mariota was the second-overall selection in 2015. Winston was the first player taken that same year, one spot ahead of Marcus. Both of the last two guys mentioned could wind up on their third team since being drafted.
The Eagles could also consider selecting a quarterback in the next NFL Draft, but much like what we see in free agency’s pool, we can’t guarantee that anyone in the next class is an upgrade. The ceiling here appears to be finding a temporary solution in free agency or finding a backup in the mid to later rounds of the selection meeting.
Hey, don’t get mad at us! We promised the best solutions now that Wilson is out of the picture. We didn’t say that all of them are home runs.
