The Philadelphia Eagles can trade a mix of draft picks and players.

It’s easy to forget that D.K. Metcalf wasn’t a first-rounder. Still, after seeing what he’s become, it’s believable that he’d have equal trade value to a first-rounder in any believable trade scenario.

That’s why there’s an argument being made for giving up one of those first-rounders this offseason; however, anything more than that seems egregious to many. That’s a fair statement in all honesty.

Here’s another way of thinking. While we wouldn’t recommend the Philadelphia Eagles swapping a first-rounder and a player, we’re fine with Philly giving up a couple of players and mid-rounder or any decision that involves giving up a second-rounder and maybe one more guy.

Again, we’ll give up JJAW and Reagor. All trades involving players begin with those guys. We’d also be willing to mortgage a couple of third-day picks, one in this draft and one in the next as a starting point to get a conversation going.

Seattle could bite and begin some negotiations. Then again, they may not. The point here is there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Landing Metcalf won’t happen because Philly gave up a couple of third-rounders a la what we saw with the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders in the Carson Wentz deal. Making this happen would take some doing, but the result would most certainly justify the means.

Acquiring Metcalf gives Philadephia another target for Jalen Hurts and an offensive weapon with the ability to be a perennial Pro Bowl nod. Who knows? It may even allow us to extend a little forgiveness in Howie Roseman’s direction.

On second thought, we’ll hold off on that last idea, but you get the point. This is a move that fixes an issue that’s been hanging over the organization for a while. We’ll see if there’s any traction in terms of the Eagles getting a deal done. No one will complain about seeing D.K. Metcalf trade one bird’s nest for another.
