The underrated yet talented rookie: Carson Strong

Following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft, Philadelphia added 12 undrafted rookies, and from top to bottom, this may be the most talented group of UDFAs the Eagles have ever signed. Everyone is good enough to make an NFL team’s 53-man roster, even if that roster isn’t the one belonging to Birds.

Successful arguments can be made stating, that had things taken a different turn here or there, many of these guys would have heard their names called during the selection meeting. Throw rookie signal-caller Carson Strong in that category.

Nine quarterbacks were taken in April’s draft: Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis, Matt Corral, Bailey Zappe, Sam Howell, Chris Oladokun, Skylar Thompson, and Brock Purdy. Had Strong not dealt with an injury and the questions that came up as a result, he would have been drafted too. Some may argue with that, but here’s what we can say with certainty.

We don’t know if any of the guys that were selected are better than Carson Strong is.

Philly gave him $320,000 in guaranteed money which is a huge number for an undrafted rookie. That should tell you what they think of him. That should also tell you that, at best, all roads probably lead to the practice squad for Reid Sinnett.

Gardner Minshew continues to be a talking point when it comes to the best trade collateral that the Eagles have. If he’s moved, Strong becomes the second-stringer, and even if Minshew stays, the intrigue around Strong will increase if he shows some signs of being capable during the preseason, and folks, playing against third-stringers, the possibility of that happening is high for the former Nevada Wolf Pack star.
