The best available free agent/a retiree worth calling: Cam Newton/Ryan Fitzpatrick

Remember when we said you weren’t going to like all of these options? We don’t even like the idea of Ryan Fitzpatrick or Cam Newton in midnight green. They are, however, options, so we do have to talk about them.

From ‘The Mustache’ and the clean-shaven rookie to one of the best beards of the past ten years, Ryan Fitzpatrick, believe it or not, announced his retirement after 17 seasons in the NFL. For a second there, we thought he was on a quest to play for all 32 NFL teams.

Yes, fans if your children haven’t graduated from high school yet, they don’t know a world where ‘Fitzmagic’ hasn’t been throwing both touchdowns and ill-advised interceptions at football’s highest level, but at some point, everything must change.

What’s equally amazing is this. He and Cam Newton are the best options the Eagles have if the plan wound up being exploring free agency or calling a retiree and convincing him to leave from the friendly confines of his living room.

Ben Roethlisberger should have called it a career prior to 2021, and once you get past Cam, the discussions turn to A.J. McCarron, Garrett Gilbert, and Josh Rosen. Jalen Hurts doesn’t sound so bad now, does he?
