Eagles roster: Top players, most likely cut candidates at each position
So, how are the Eagles stacked at the defensive line and linebacker positions?
We move along to the defense, where the line and second level are impressive on paper.
Top three: Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Derek Barnett
The Eagles have five defensive ends on the training camp roster, and regardless of what you think about him, Derek Barnett is one of them.
The low man on the depth chart (though not a cut candidate): Matt Leo
Second-year man Tarron Jackson will make the team, but he’s still staring up at Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Derek Barnett on the depth chart. Matt Leo is a special exemption having joined the Birds in 2020 as part of the International Player Pathway Program.
Top three: Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Milton Williams
Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Milton Williams, and Jordan Davis will all make the team. Philadelphia’s offensive line is the best unit on the team, but the defensive tackles these guys have made the interior of the D-line a close second.
The low man on the depth chart: Kobe Smith
Kobe Smith has a tough hill to climb to make the roster. That’s also the case for Marvin Wilson and Renell Wren, but you have to believe the Eagles, right now, place a higher value on both of them.
Top three: T.J. Edwards, Nakobe Dean, Shaun Bradley
The low man on the depth chart: Shaun Bradley
T.J. Edwards and Nakobe Dean are going to be a lot of fun to watch as the quarterbacks of the Eagles’ defense. Shaun Bradley has a ton of ability, but with so much talent on Philadelphia’s roster at the linebacker position, it may be necessary to ask if they’re approaching gridlock.
