Philadelphia Eagles interior defensive lineman Fletcher Cox

Six-time Pro Bowler and 2010s All-Decade Team member Fletcher Cox is a longstanding pillar of the Philadelphia Eagles organization. That didn’t stop the Eagles from releasing the veteran and re-signing him later despite 61.0 career sacks.

Cox’s current arrangement is a one-year, $14 million deal. It seems doubtful that he’ll remain with the team in 2023. The current run felt both like an audition and a swan song, but the first ten weeks of the current regular season make this feel like the latter.

Cox has proven to still be one of the cornerstones of the Eagles’ defense. So far in 2022, he has recorded three sacks and a forced fumble. Another run with the midnight green in 2023 would probably come with another $10-15 million price tag with voidable years attached to keep Cox’s cap hit around $5 million.

Philadelphia currently sits at a projected $9.1 million in 2023 salary cap space according to Spotrac.com, and a projected $15.2 million in 2023 according to Overthecap.com. If the money isn’t there, it seems unlikely that he’ll stick around.
