Half-dozen Eagles who shouldn’t be brought back for 2023 NFL season

Miles Sanders. 26. player. 54. . .

We love Miles Sanders, but the Eagles have too many needs to dish out huge money for a running back.

It seems foolish to part ways with a Pro Bowler who’s coming off of the best season of his career. Those are the types of decisions, however, that the NFL’s salary cap forces every franchise to make.

This past season, Miles Sanders was asked to prove that he could be the feature back in Philly’s offense and stay healthy. He did all of that and more, notching career highs in games played (17), rushing attempts (259), rushing yards (1,69), and rushing touchdowns (11).

Unfortunately, that probably isn’t enough to guarantee his place on the 2023 53-man roster.

We all know how this works. Most teams in the NFL no longer treat running backs like they’re a premium position on the roster, and they believe the tailback position is the one they can replace most easily.

The Eagles are prioritizing the extension of C.J. Gardner-Johnson. It’s time to pay Jalen Hurts, and we can rattle off several other roster needs that might take precedence (defensive line, right guard, cornerback, linebacker) before we begin discussing their backfield.

Don’t give up hope. Miles could test free agency, realize that his market isn’t what he would like, and return to Philly on a team-friendly deal. Somehow, we doubt that happens though.

Sanders will get paid. It probably won’t be by Philly, and the Birds will more than likely use the money they could have given the former Penn State Nittany Lion to address some of those needs they view as being more pressing.
