54. . . . Fletcher Cox. 91. player

The Eagles may finally say farewell to a legend, albeit 12 months after we thought they’d do so.

Whenever we make mention of the fact that the Eagles will look different next season, guys like Fletcher Cox are who we are thinking about. We thought the Eagles were finally ready to say farewell to their future Hall of Famer last offseason, and indeed, they did… for 48 hours. Following his release, they brought him back on a one-year deal.

In a reduced role, Cox enjoyed his best season since 2018 when he earned a First-team All-Pro designation, but while he’s still better than some of his contemporaries, it’s obvious that he’s far from being the man that rightly took his place among six Pro Bowl rosters and the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

With that being said, we expect to hear the news we thought we’d hear 12 months ago. For the first time in his career, Fletch figures to play for another NFL team next season. We’ll see what happens with Javon Hargrave who feels like the higher-priority signing now, but for all intents and puro[oses he could also leave for a larger payday.

As far as Number 91 is concerned, based on reputation alone, even with some of the dropoff physically and from a performance standpoint, he can possibly secure one more enormous payday before he hangs up the cleats for good.

The Birds are now in the hands of Milton Williams, Marlon Tuipulotu, and Jordan Davis. We’ll see if they draft another defensive tackle, add one in free agency or find a way to hang on to Javon Hargrave.
