Would the Eagles consider reacquiring DeAndre Carter from the Los Angeles Chargers?

It feels like Philadelphia doesn’t need a ton of help at the wide receiver position with studs like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith leading the unit, but they can’t do it alone. There’s most certainly a need for depth. One of the members of the team’s corps appears to be headed to free agency, Zach Pascal. There are questions about whether or not we have already seen the best that Quez Watkins has to offer.

If Pascal leaves, which is a very real possibility, this unit gets thin in a hurry. Former Eagles wide receiver DeAndre Carter could be a good replacement. He’s someone Philly is already familiar with.

Carter’s career began with a whirlwind tour. After going undrafted in 2015, he saw three different locker rooms in 2015 (Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots) before spending another season on the Pats’ practice squad in 2016 and the 2017 season on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

Carter was waived by the Niners in May of 2018 and signed by Philly two months later. He caught two passes in seven games and returned ten punts for 103 yards and ten kickoffs for 204 yards.

Philly would cut Carter in December of that year, and he would bounce around to three other teams until finding a place with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. Carter accepted the challenge of filling in for Mike Williams and Keenan Allen who were both injured at different points of the campaign.

He accepted that challenge by having a career year with 538 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 17 games. He also returned 29 punts for 339 yards and 26 kickoffs for 497 yards in 2022. If he was able to do that in an Eagles jersey, no one would complain at all.

DeAndre would definitely aid Philadelphia by giving them some depth and experience in the receiving corps, but providing a spark to the Eagles’ return game might be where he most has an impact. They got nothing in that area last season.
