Trade Darius Slay or construct a massive restructuring of both his AND Lane Johnson.

By now, you’ve probably talked to some of your friends and/or coworkers about the monstrous price tag that Darius Slay represents. He counts as a $26.1 million cap hit in 2023 and as a $21.2 dead-cap hit if Philly were to just cut him and move on.

Trading him opens up a lot of wiggle room to re-sign some of the Eagles’ in-house talent, but if the goal is to keep him, which we wouldn’t mind either, a restructure would be absolutely necessary.

While they’re at it. Philly might want to finagle Lane Johnson‘s deal in some way. He’s due $24.1 million in 2023 and is signed through 2025 with three ‘dummy years’ sitting on the backend of his current deal.

Find the ‘value’ and bargain free-agent signings.

This free agency frenzy will mirror so many of the frenzies that have preceded it. Some guys will be overpaid. Others will be forced to take discounts.

With Philly seemingly strapped for cash, they’ll need to make more happen with less and ask Howie Roseman to wave his magic wand and find the best of the guys in the latter category.
