Fan-fueled NFL Mock Draft: Eagles make another massive 1st-round trade
The Eagles add nice options at three positions of need in our zany NFL mock draft.
With the trade landing Mazi Smith and after missing out on a solid interior defensive lineman in Round 1, the Eagles make up for that here with the selection of Mazi Smith. Truthfully, no one should be shocked if his stock rises and he lands with someone in Round 1, but for now, we’re banking on two things landing him somewhere around 39.
One, at 323 pounds, he probably grades out as a run-stopper and/or a rotational nose tackle, and that could lead to him leaving the field in obvious pass-rushing situations. We also hear that Jalen Carter (UGA), Calijah Kancey (Pitt), and Bryan Bresee (Clemson) are all graded higher, putting him in the tier with Siaki Ika (Baylor) and Zacch Pickens (South Carolina). We’ll roll the dice and state Phily can trade back and place Mazi in the conversation at 39.
Marvin Mims and his 4.3-second speed could put a little pressure on Quez Watkins.
You wanted offense. You get offense. With there being questions about whether or not Quez Watkins is truly a slot receiver or someone who should be treated as a reserve on the outside, the Birds add some insurance with the selection of Marvin Mims. He’s another speedster. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the most recent NFL Scouting Combine, and he could help light a fire under Quez.
Think about this offensive attack at the skill positions: Jalen Hurts (QB), Bijan Robinson (RB), A.J. Brown (X), DeVonta Smith (Y), Marvin Mims Jr. (Z), Dallas Goedert (TE). Throw in the best offensive line in the NFL, and we ask you… Who is going to stop this team.?
The Eagles double-dip in the Longhorns’ cupboard in this NFL mock draft.
Philly’s last linebacker taken from Texas was a good one (Jordan Hicks). There’s a lot to be excited about with DeMarvion Overshown as well. There aren’t many polished inside linebackers in this draft, and the former Longhorn could benefit by adding a few pounds and hitting the weight room. Then again, we could also argue that Noah Sewell took a step back in 2020 and Trenton Simpson has first-round talent but played like a second-round prospect.
Overshown is a former safety turned linebacker. His ceiling might be as a backup or a special teamer, but the Eagles keep taking linebackers in these drafts that aren’t working out. Might Overshown drive a wedge in the revolving door?
