54. . . . Ken Clarke. 9. player

The Eagles drafted two defensive linemen in 1978, but it was the undrafted guy, Ken Clark, that turned out to be the diamond.

Philadelphia would draft two defensive linemen in the 1978 NFL Draft. One was Greg Marshall. the other was Dennis Harrison. Marshall never suited up for the Eagles. Harrison had a decent career with the team and racked up 55. 5 sacks. The Birds picked up a nose tackle named Ken Clarke after the draft had ended. He’d go on to craft a stat line that was almost as decent as Harrison’s.

In his ten seasons in Philly, he notched  48 sacks in 148 games. The best season of his career came in 1984. 16 games led to 10.5 sacks. No one in their right mind would ever complain about that, nor would they deny he had a career to remember. Ken’s 48 sacks currently slots him as having the tenth most quarterbacks takedowns in franchise history.

There’s a trivia question for you at the next family function. How many die-hard Eagles fans do you know that would know the answer to that question? During ten NFL seasons in Philly, he appeared in 155 games with 83 starts. That’s pretty good for a guy taken in Round 4 let alone one who wasn’t selected.
