The 2025 Philadelphia Eagles might just be the most polarizing 4-0 team in NFL history.
Nothing really went according to plan over the first month of the season, but the Eagles still found a way to beat the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams at home, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road to kick-off their Super Bowl title defense.
The rushing attack has been bottled up. The defense has been inconsistent. The passing game has been… well, frustrating.
Yet despite the growing concerns surrounding the team, Philadelphia continues to win thanks to its leadership and championship pedigree. The Eagles are 11-for-11 in the red zone to start the season — owning the only 100 percent touchdown clip in the NFL — and their situational play on both sides of the ball has also been second to none.
Simply put, when the Eagles need a winning play, they find one. Every week, it seems like the offense, defense or special teams tosses on the cape to play hero.
At this point, the Eagles are one of one. They may be unorthodox, but they’ve gotten the job done in 20 of their last 21 games, including last year’s Super Bowl.
No matter how ugly it seems from those in the national media, the panic meter for this team entering October remains extremely low.
Top Philadelphia Eagles overreactions through the first 4 games of 2025
A.J. Brown is a legitimate trade candidate this year
C’mon. We do this every year.
Brown once again vented frustration with his role in the Eagles’ struggling passing game, which, similar to 2024, ranks at or near the bottom of the league in pass attempts, completions, and net yards per game. This is just part of the process. In fact, getting this familiar song and dance done early in the season should only bode well for the future.
Howie Roseman isn’t trading A.J. Brown. He’s in the prime of his career, is signed through 2029, and now costs less than guys like Garrett Wilson and D.K. Metcalf. No general manager is moving a bonafide No. 1 wide receiver because he wants to contribute more to the team’s wins.
Let’s try to live in reality here. Moving Brown this season would be a colossal blunder, one Roseman is definitely too good of a GM to make.
Saquon Barkley is cooked after his high-volume 2024 season
Through four games, the numbers don’t lie. Barkley hasn’t been able to rip off the big runs that changed everything for Philly’s offense during its 2024 run.
It’s also way too soon to conclude that Barkley’s career-high 482 total touches last season is the main culprit.
There are a number of factors at play here. Philly’s interior offensive line play has gotten off to a slow start, with right guard Tyler Steen, center Cam Jurgens, and left guard Landon Dickerson all performing below expectations. The Eagles have also hurt themselves with less motion and play-action on offense, leading to glaring tendencies and too much predictability.
Through the first 4 weeks of the season, the Eagles OL ranks:
— Shane Haff (@ShaneHaffNFL) October 1, 2025
25th in yards before contact per carry
27th in run stuff rate
22nd in run block win rate
24th in pressure rate allowed
26th in pass block win rate
Head coach Nick Sirianni and company have to adjust, and that should be the expectation in October. Better run-pass balance, and more variance to get Barkley off-tackle more, should help get the NFL’s most dynamic rushing attack back on track.
Barkley was always going to be hard-pressed to match last year’s 2,000-yard rushing season, but he’s healthy and far too good to be held down much longer. His longest rush of the 2025 season has gone for just 15 yards through four games; it’s a good bet that changes in Week 5.
The Eagles’ Super Bowl repeat chances are doomed with Kevin Patullo calling the plays
There’s no denying that the Eagles’ offense has been a frustrating, mixed bag under Patullo’s watch. Clearly, a switch-up at offensive coordinator for the third time in as many years needs more time to jell.
It’s an obvious overreaction for fans and the media to write Patullo off this soon. His play calling and concepts have been money in the red zone. The Eagles are a top-10 team on third down and fourth down. Obviously, he needs to spin the dial more, stop rushing Barkley between the tackles so much, and figure out a way to threaten the defense vertically with Brown and DeVonta Smith.
That should come with more live game reps. The Eagles were inconsistent and started 2-2 through four games under Kellen Moore last year. It was Game 5 of the regular season when adjustments were made and the train started rolling.
Philadelphia has the luxury of being in the same boat, only this time sitting alone atop the NFC East by two full games. Sirianni and Patullo have been working closely since their time together as assistant coaches with the Indianapolis Colts.
