After his return seemed far from certain, Philadelphia Eagles veteran tight end Dallas Goedert is back for his ninth season.

As one of the longest-tenured fixtures on the Philadelphia roster, he's excited to remain in midnight green for at least one more run. Josh Alper over at NBC's Pro Football Talk provided Goedert's take on his decision to ink his one-year deal and give it another go in Philadelphia.

“It’s a little bit of everything. I was able to test free agency a little bit,” Goedert said. “Had opportunities to go elsewhere. Nothing was a better opportunity than I thought I could have here. Being able to play in the same place for nine years is special. It would’ve had to be something really drastic to have me try to sign somewhere else.”

Change surrounds Dallas Goedert despite the drive to still play as an Eagle

While there was plenty of uncertainty on whether or not the trusted weapon for Jalen Hurts would in fact return, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and Goedert's camp worked together each step of the way in recent months, ensuring the former FCS standout at North Dakota State would remain on board for at least one more season. The void date on his contract was moved back, not once, but twice, as Roseman made moves to ultimately make the numbers work.

The reliable pass catcher, who is fresh off a strong 2025 campaign, including a career-high 11 touchdowns and 60 receptions, chose to return to a tight end room and an overall offense that looks noticeably different.

The addition of second-round selection Eli Stowers signals the future at the position, while the arrival of offensive coordinator Sean Mannion welcomes in a new feel and a much-needed fresh approach for the offensive unit.

Goedert wasn't ready to walk away from the place where he had developed and thrived, from a franchise and a group in which so much collective success had been achieved. He may not brandish the blazing speed of Stowers or other younger vertical threats at the position leaguewide, but he moves the chains with authority and delivers big plays for this offense.

As the contract was discussed, the numbers ultimately clicked for both parties, and Goedert is relishing the opportunity to make another spirited run with the Eagles.
