Dramatic changes on offense's impact on Eagles in 2026 season

Will these moves pay off?

While many of the same characters are still here, the Philadelphia Eagles' story in 2026 has a new chapter that somewhat makes this book unrecognizable.

The Eagles made so many changes, specifically on offense, with Sean Mannion as the new offensive coordinator; DeVonta Smith is WR1 after A.J. Brown's trade; there are three new wide receivers trying to become the new WR2, and Jalen Hurts has more pressure than ever before to perform well and prove his worth. Even head coach Nick Sirianni, who has won almost 70% of the games he has coached, is on the hot seat.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer shared his biggest takeaway from every NFL team entering this long summer break for the league. Breer's focus for the Eagles was mainly on offense, examining what the team's 2026 outcome should be.

"The Eagles’ offseason seemed to be centered on the A.J. Brown drama, and the fallout leaves two simple things to focus on for camp. The first is what Jalen Hurts looks like post-Brown, with new OC Sean Mannion leading the way. The second, obviously, is how the replacements around DeVonta Smith—Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown—look. The roster is otherwise in good shape and still in a window to compete at the highest level. Newcomers Tariq Woolen and Jonathan Greenard are two guys to watch in camp on defense."

Eagles still looking poised for a good 2026 season despite all the changes

Even with the loss of A.J. Brown, which does hurt, the Eagles' offense is actually in a better position. Their wide receiver room is the deepest it has ever been while Hurts has been the quarterback, as he's actually got some speed with Hollywood Brown, and Smith is ready to prove that he is a number-one receiver.

A.J. Brown's trade should also cut down the drama in Philly as well. In the last two years, it has been a storyline that dominated headlines and has been considered a massive distraction for the team. They can now focus on being a strong unit together and winning games.

Mannion brings a different dynamic to the offense as the Eagles move out of the Stone Age and adopt a modern offense with motions, RPOs, and more throws in the middle of the field. This is only going to help Hurts prove he can make all the throws and open up the running game for Saquon Barkley.

On defense, Woolen was the star of OTAs and finally gave Eagles fans hope that they found the replacement for Darius Slay after a year of suffering with Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo. Greenard might have had a tough 2025 season with injury and just three sacks, but his 2023 and 2024 seasons ending in 12 or more sacks are exactly what the Eagles' pass rush needed to go from great to elite.

These might be changes that affect things a bit at first, but the Eagles have set themselves up for the future. They should stay competitive because of what general manager Howie Roseman has built with Sirianni's winning culture mixed in.
