After what Philadelphia Eagles center Cam Jurgens said about his injury issues he dealt with during the 2025 season, the team would be smart to look for a backup for him.
The Eagles already lost their backup center, Brett Toth, who signed elsewhere in free agency. That has left a massive hole at the position, as Philly needs depth on the offensive line and can address it through the 2026 NFL Draft.
NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark reported that the Eagles are hosting Penn State center Nick Dawkins on a local pre-draft visit. Dawkins received honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference honors and won the Wuerffel Trophy award in 2024.
Eagles hosting Nick Dawkins on a local visit
Dawkins has been a solid starting center at Penn State over the last few years and is currently seen as a Day 2 or 3 pick in the NFL Draft. He has the potential to develop into a future starter, but is seen more as a depth piece to an offensive line early on in his career.
Jurgens' injury issues over the last two years have raised questions about whether the Eagles have enough depth on the line to handle it. Philly almost lost right tackle Lane Johnson and left guard Landon Dickerson to retirement due to health concerns.
This draft is going to be used to get the offense younger, with so many veterans most likely going to depart in the next few years. Jurgens is still a long way from retiring, but his health is still a concern, so Dawkins could come in and give them a solid option to turn to if Jurgens gets hurt again.

Dawkins may not be a starter on the Eagles, but he can help the team in a big way on the bench.
