Tanner McKee didn't have to start an NFL game to solidify himself as a success. He didn't have to hear his name called during an NFL Draft. He didn't have to throw a touchdown pass as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Tanner was successful once he stepped foot on Stanford's campus as student athlete.
Perhaps you have heard. They don't admit every applicant.
Young men and women who attend 'The Farm' tend to do well for themselves. The curriculum isn't for the faint-hearted or someone who is, shall we say, 'still trying to figure things out', and if you're a fan of football, you can even find some entertainment thanks to a decent football team.
Things really took off under Jim Harbaugh's watch, but we've seen great players come from the Cardinal's program before. Guys like Jim Plunkett, John Elway, John Lynch, Richard Sherman, Ed McCaffrey, Christian McCaffrey, and James Lofton come to mind. Stanford was also the collegiate stomping ground of Eagles legends like Zach Ertz and Tanner McKee.
What's that? Tanner McKee isn't a legend? Au contraire mon frère. Tanner's Eagles resulted in something no NFL QB has ever done.
Eagles news: Tanner McKee sets a record that we didn't even know was a record.
These days, there are so many ways to track stats and numbers that it seems like an NFL record is set every week. One day, we'll be discussing that time (enter player's name) threw the most consecutive completions with his left hand.
You wait and see. That day is coming.
For now, we'll settle for potential single-season rushing records for Saquon Barkley and Tanner McKee making the most of minimal opportunities and four passing attempts during the second half of Philly's lopsided win over the hated Dallas Cowboys.
Tanner threw four passes. Three were completions. Two of those three completions resulted in TDs.
Thankfully, A.J. Brown worked something out with a fan and retrieved the football thrown to A.J. from Tanner for the latter's first career TD pass.
But, as far as the stat line goes, no NFL rookie can claim to throw multiple TD passes while attempting fewer than five passes. Heck, no player in the NFL Draft era has ever done that, not even McKee's fellow former Stanford QBs John Elway and Andrew Luck.
Thank ML Football and Opta Sports for the alley-oop pass.
See? Tanner is a legend now, or, at minimum, he's the answer to a really cool trivia question. Either way, he has a story to tell the grandchildren.
More Eagles news: Like Tanner McKee, C.J. Gardner-Johnson may want to keep one of the Week 17 game balls.
How about those eight days for C.J. Gardner-Johnson? He went from the outhouse to the penthouse, didn't he? Ejected during the Eagles' Week 16 loss vs. the Washington Commanders, he rebounded in a big way, snagging two interceptions vs. the Cowboys in Week 17. He did, however, steal one from Quinyon Mitchell for the second time this season.
Snagging two picks under any circumstance is pretty impressive though. Talk about 'seeing double'. His pick-six is worth another look.
C.J. G.J.'s Week 17 pick-six is the first of his career. His response to the contrast of his last two games... 'I have to grow up... My team is better when I'm on the field".
He can give up a big play from time to time. He's super emotional, but he's a playmaker. So, we'd have to say we agree with him.
