The Philadelphia Eagles are close to the end of the preseason, but they might be seeing the beginning of something else.
Everyone knows how lucky the Eagles got with former seventh-round pick Moro Ojomo and how he quickly became a rising star on this team. Ojomo went from one of the last picks in the 2023 NFL Draft to potentially making between $20 million and 25 million per year in 2027.
Last year was Ojomo's best season, racking up 38 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, six sacks, and one pass deflection in 17 games. While he might be a star in the NFL and a key figure in the Eagles' defense in 2026, the last two preseason games have done him no favors for his future in Philly.
Ty Robinson could force Moro Ojomo out of Eagles roster in 2027
The Eagles are seeing a rising star out of defensive tackle Ty Robinson after the team drafted him in the fourth round in last year's NFL Draft. After a quiet rookie season, Robinson has dominated through two preseason games with six tackles, four quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Robinson is showing the Eagles he has the potential to be a future starter. His size and strength are what make him perfect for Philly's line.
This situation is actually working out exactly how the Eagles wanted it to. It's also the polar opposite of what Ojomo needs.
During the offseason, Ojomo hired a new agency, hoping to land a new contract since he is in the final year of his current deal with the Eagles. He hopes to extend with the Eagles, as they did with Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, or sign elsewhere in free agency next offseason.
The Eagles are in a good spot if Robinson has a breakout 2026 season. They have him under contract for two more years, so they don't need to do anything with his deal. Ojomo will want more money, and the Eagles can't afford him, so Robinson moves into the starting lineup and Ojomo signs with another team.
One reason the Eagles won't be able to pay Ojomo is that two other starting defenders will need contract extensions: cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Mitchell and DeJean are most likely to reset the market at outside corner and nickel corner, making them expensive.

As much as Ojomo has become a fan favorite in Philly, Robinson would actually do the franchise a massive favor by being an elite player this season. It increasingly feels like Ojomo will follow the Milton Williams path and get paid a lot of money elsewhere, and that would work, but it would be the best-case scenario for the Eagles.
