Eagles' star running back shares thoughts on former quarterback, Daniel Jones
One of the Philadelphia Eagles' fiercest rivals has said goodbye to yet another player they once thought they'd build their franchise around. New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was benched earlier this week in favor of fan-favorite Tommy DeVito. He requested his release, one Big Blue decided to grant.
The G-Men face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. They officially set their sights on a new era. Saquon Barkley had much to say about it as he and Jones are longtime friends and former teammates.
Saquon Barkley wishes former teammate a successful journey.
Saquon Barkley understands the emotions of leaving a franchise. Following Jones' release, he stated the following.
"It sucks to see how everything went down out there, but I have nothing but great things to say about him. You're not going to really find anybody that can really say negative things about him. But, it's the NFL. Hopefully, wherever he ends up next, they're going to get a guy who comes in and works."
The former franchise quarterback played five seasons with Barkley spanning 2019-2023. With Jones as a teammate, Barkley racked up 3,904 rushing yards before leaving for Philadelphia.
Jones will now hit the waivers list. He may not enjoy the Cinderella story that Barkley did, but several NFL teams will be interested in adding a veteran with a starter's experience.
Meanwhile, in Philly, Barkley is working on an MVP-level season. The Eagles will prepare for the Rams minus some key pieces but should be fine in a primetime showing on Sunday Night Football.
