It was one of those moves we placed in the 'low-risk, high-reward' sphere. The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to sign Devin White on March 18th. $7.5 million was the price tag. It seemed like a good idea at the time. The dollar amount wasn't outrageous. It didn't break the bank, and if it didn't work, they could simply cut ties.

Guess what? It didn't work.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announce Devin White's release.

Once upon a time, Devin White was one of the best players on the football field during a Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl win. Just under three years later, he was benched by those same Bucs during a postseason game which was ironically played versus Philadelphia.

You all know what happened since his arrival. We learned Nakobe Dean was just a better football player. White hasn't suited up for a football game since his arrival. He didn't even travel with the team to Brazil, and on at least one occasion, we know he was a healthy scratch.

A few hurt feelings later (and after some questionable moves on social media), the Birds have officially handed him his walking papers.

This shouldn't shock anyone.

Less than a day earlier, they opened practice windows for safety Sydney Brown and rookie wide receiver Ainias Smith. If one or the other was elevated, the Birds would need the available roster spot.

White was the most likely candidate. He was barely on the roster anyway, and now that he's gone, the hope is Brown is ready to return.

As far as he and Smith are concerned, the Eagles have 21 days to elevate them to the active roster. If that doesn't happen, they revert back to the injured reserve where they will remain for the remainder of the regular season.
