Things have been kind of bleak for former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Elijah Cooks after just recently being released from the New Orleans Saints.
The ex-Eagle has been looking for an NFL team to play for, but instead decided to take a slightly different direction in his football career. Cooks was announced as having signed with the United Football League (UFL), joining the Birmingham Stallions.
Last preseason, Cooks played for the Eagles and showed some good stuff in training camp that nearly got him on the 53-man roster, but instead landed him on the practice squad for a while. In two preseason games, he caught just two of six targets for 14 yards.
Former Eagles wide receiver keeping his playing career alive in the UFL
Cooks fit well with the Eagles as he saw more snaps after Johnny Wilson suffered a season-ending injury in training camp. Unfortunately for Cooks, Eagles fans never got to see how well he could play in the preseason, as there were some struggles at quarterback with the third- and fourth-stringers, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord (neither guy is on the team anymore).
At least for Cooks, he can lean on his 6-foot-4 frame to help separate himself from the rest of the receivers on the team. He is a true outside receiver who has decent 4.5 speed to use to his advantage.
Cooks is hoping to see the same kind of success as other former Eagles players in the UFL, like DTR, who has been on fire with the same Stallions team over the last two weeks. It will be cool for Eagles fans to see DTR and Cooks connect once again after seeing the two together in the preseason last year.

It's good to see Cooks back in football, still playing, with hopes that he will have success and get back into the NFL.
