Rookie defensive tackle Ty Robinson has a tremendous opportunity coming up in the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 14 showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers.

If he plays his cards right, it may change the Eagles' offseason plans. With Jalen Carter out against the Chargers with injuries to both of his shoulders, it'll most likely be Robinson taking reps in place of their 2023 first-round pick.

The rookie from Nebraska might have a chance to make a major contribution

Robinson has been a bit of a disappointment in his rookie season. While Robinson's opportunities have been limited, he's been a "healthy scratch" multiple times this season. He has had only one game in which he contributed, with 19 snaps on the defensive line, recording a tackle and a pass deflection.

Robinson will most likely be thrown into the rotation at defensive line with Carter out for the matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. The opportunity for Robinson is not just huge for him, but could be a key piece in the Eagles' plans moving forward as well.

If Robinson can put together competent defensive line play, it may allow the Eagles to move on from Jordan Davis and save them plenty of money. The Eagles have found mid-to-late-round gems on their interior defensive line in Moro Ojomo (2023 seventh-round pick) and Milton Williams (2021 third-round pick), giving them plenty of flexibility. Moving into Week 14, the Eagles hope that Robinson can expand on that trend.

With cap space always a pressing concern, the Eagles will have to decide on what to do with both Carter and their 2022 first-round pick, Jordan Davis. Davis is in his fourth season with the Eagles and has had his fifth-year option exercised for the 2026 season. If Robinson can complement the other pieces on the defensive line, the Eagles may be okay with letting Davis walk and focusing on the next round of contracts.

The Eagles have Davis, who'll be due an extension; Carter, who has his fifth-year option that may be exercised for the 2027 season; Jaelan Phillips; and Josh Uche on the defensive line, all of whom are most likely engaged in contract discussions.

Robinson also has the opportunity to "right the ship" for his draft class, which has seen a massive reduction in production after Andrew Mukuba's injury. For the fourth-round pick out of Nebraska, he'll have his shot to prove he can be a part of the Eagles' long-term future in Los Angeles.
