Can he land the job?

Philadelphia Eagles fans might want to forget about him, but former offensive coordinator Brian Johnson is back in the news and might have a shot at redeeming himself.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Johnson has interviewed with the Denver Broncos for their offensive coordinator opening. Johnson has spent the last two years with the Washington Commanders as their assistant head coach and offensive pass game coordinator.

Infamously, Johnson is remembered most as the Eagles' offensive coordinator in 2023 after replacing Shane Steichen, but he lasted just one year before getting fired and replaced by Kellen Moore. Johnson was previously the Eagles' quarterbacks coach in 2021 and 2022.

Former Eagles OC Brian Johnson might get second shot at running an offense

It should be stated that the likelihood of Johnson landing the Broncos' offensive coordinator job is slim. Denver just fired their offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi, but it appears this could be an attempt to keep their passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Davis Webb, from leaving by offering him the OC role.

When Johnson did run the Eagles' offense in 2023, they still finished in the top 10 in total yards, something Kevin Patullo couldn't do in his only year as Eagles offensive coordinator. The problem was that Johnson's play-calling was questioned because it consisted of endless bubble screens and go routes, which led to quarterback Jalen Hurts having his worst season, throwing 15 interceptions.

Looking back at that season, should Johnson have gotten a second chance? Maybe, but his firing ended up working out, as Moore was the perfect replacement and helped the Eagles soar in 2024 with one of the best offenses in the NFL, and they won the Super Bowl.

It would be good to see Johnson get a second chance to redeem himself, wherever that is, as everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their image.
