In the offseason, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was cooking with the moves he made, but even the evil genius can sometimes slip up.
Roseman did a masterful job in addressing some key positions on the team that needed help. On defense, trading for edge rusher Jonathan Greenard and signing cornerback Riq Woolen certainly added a level of greatness the unit needed. Even on offense, revamping the wide receiver room helped the Eagles replace A.J. Brown and gave quarterback Jalen Hurts the young weapons he needed.
Some Eagles fans were not happy that Roseman didn't do much about the safety position after the departure of Reed Blankenship. Every fan can agree on one thing, though: Roseman screwed up with what he did at kicker.
How is there no competition for Jake Elliott entering Eagles training camp?
It has been well documented that every Eagles fan is frustrated with Elliott as the starting kicker. While he has had some of the most iconic moments in franchise history, his performance over the last two years has been abysmal at best.
Starting in 2024, Elliott only made 77.8% of his field goals in the regular season, but his 90.9% field goal percentage in the playoffs ot help the Eagles win the Super Bowl erased all that frustration. It then popped up again last year, but even worse than in 2024.
Elliott finished with making 74.1% of his field goals, the second-lowest of his nine-year career. While he did have a worse season in 2020, he has never gone back-to-back years hitting less than 80% of his field goals before.
This raised a lot of concern heading into the offseason and whether the Eagles would try to find a replacement or at least bring in competition for Elliott. The opposite happened as Roseman and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni doubled down on their support for their kicker and even restructured his contract to stay in 2026.
It was a bad look for the Eagles fan base that wanted to see something change. With nothing happening about it, they just have to hope that Elliott will finally get back to his old ways.

Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay said that Elliott just needs to find the love of the game again in order to improve. The veteran kicker better find it quickly and fix his mistakes for 2026.
