There was quite a bit of concern at the beginning of the offseason about how the Philadelphia Eagles were going to handle their salary cap situation, but they seem to be firing on all cylinders now.

The Eagles have made several moves this offseason to help themselves save money against the cap. They have re-signed key players like Jordan Davis and Dallas Goedert, who helped them save millions of dollars. Even new players they brought in, like Riq Woolen, have helped them keep their cap hit much lower than originally thought.

Over The Cap shared the latest salary cap for the Eagles after one week of free agency. Goedert's new contract helped the Eagles avoid a $20 million dead cap hit, leaving the team with $40 million in cap space.

Eagles have $40 million of cap space to work with

The old saying is "the offseason is Howie season." This is where Eagles general manager Howie Roseman does his best work, as he can come up with creative ways to create cap space and have great deals for his team.

Davis's contract extension helped the Eagles save $8 million, and Woolen's cap hit is only about $3.5 million in 2026. These are the kind of moves that have helped Roseman work the salary cap to his advantage.

Now this is where Roseman is at his best. With $40 million to work with, he can just about do anything he wants to.

His first priority, though, is to try to get two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter a new contract extension to keep him long term. Carter's extension could somehow help the Eagles save some money as well if a deal can get done.

These extensions and small contract moves are so important because the Eagles are about to take a massive hit to their dead cap. If Philly ends up trading A.J. Brown, depending on when they do it, they could save money against the cap after June 1 ($7 million) or lose if they trade him before that date ($20 million), but the dead cap hit will be smaller if they wait until the summer. Regardless of when they do it, Roseman wants to make sure he has extra cash to prepare for the hit.

Roseman warned Eagles fans that this offseason would be different, quieter, as he focuses on taking care of his current players before making big moves. With now $40 million at his disposal, the Roseman is about to show the NFL why he is the best general manager in all of sports.
