Things have not been looking up over the last two years for Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott, who has struggled to get back to his old form.
Elliott has had two consecutive seasons with fewer than 80% of his field goals made, prompting Eagles fans to call for his job or at least ask for competition to be brought in. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman have repeatedly defended the kicker during last season and in the offseason.
The tide might be turning, as now Saints Wire NFL reporter Arye Pulli is reporting that the Eagles have made contact with several kickers in the draft, as it is possible that competition could be brought in for Elliott. So far in the last month, the Eagles have shown interest in UTSA's Jaffer Murphy and Houston's Ethan Sanchez.
Eagles looking at bringing in competition at kicker in 2026 NFL Draft
It was a surprise when the Eagles decided to restructure Elliott's contract during the offseason, keeping him for another season after the struggles he has had. The team showed they still have confidence in him, but their pre-draft process is making fans think otherwise.
Finding another kicker to add is the right thing to do, as Murphy and Sanchez would both be great options as replacements or competition. Murphy has been making waves with his 70-yard field goals, and Sanchez is coming off a season where he made over 80% of his field goals.
For Eagles fans, it might be hard to completely be critical of Elliott after the great overall career he has had. He's been the kicker on both of their Super Bowl-winning teams, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2021, and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2023.

After two seasons where he hit 77.8% of his field goals in 2024 and 74.1% in 2025, something has to give, so the Eagles are going to have to do what they have to do. Bringing in a young kicker to compete only makes sense.
