There are not many Philadelphia Eagles fans who are completely bought into the idea of kicker Jake Elliott being on the team for much longer after the last two seasons.
Elliott has not hit over 80% of his field goals in a season since 2023 and has regressed over the last two years, going 77.8% in 2024 and 74.1% in 2025. After several calls for Elliott to be replaced or to face competition, the Eagles brass, including general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni, have voiced their support for their kicker. One action now might change that.
Ryan Fowler reported that the Eagles were one of four teams that have shown heavy interest in Houston kicker Ethan Sanchez in the 2026 NFL Draft. Last year, Sanchez converted 80.8% of his field goals and scored 106 points on the year. He was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award for the nation's best kicker
Eagles showing interest in Ethan Sanchez speaks volumes
There have been subtle signs throughout the offseason that the Eagles have been looking at kickers in the NFL Draft, with one of their assistants working with the position group at the NFL Combine. They were also in attendance for UTSA kicker Jaffer Murphy's Pro Day workout that saw him hit a 70-yard field goal.
Sanchez has been a reliable kicker over the last two years, nailing over 91% of his field goals in 2024 with Old Dominion. He was also perfect on his extra point attempts last year with the Cougars, hitting all 43 attempts.
Despite the workouts and interest, the Eagles are not necessarily going to just give up on Elliott right away. They have shown their commitment to him by restructuring his contract for the 2026 season, saving the team $240,000 in cap space.

It is at least encouraging for Eagles fans to see the team is legitimately looking at a kicker. Elliott should take it as a subtle hint to improve his performance in 2026.
