Who would have thought? A motion picture producer buys the Philadelphia Eagles from a car dealer, and that moment becomes the most important deal in the history of this proud franchise. If you're old enough to remember Norman Braman, you've no doubt been spoiled by Jeffrey Lurie. We've never seen sustained success like this in a lifetime of loving our Birds.
Remember it was Braman who refused to evolve and accept that NFL free agency was a thing. That's how Reggie White ends up in Green Bay. That's how you end up watching one of the greatest Eagles ever win a Super Bowl (but as a member of the Packers).
Honestly, we didn't know how to take good ol' Jeffrey at first. He replaced our beloved kelly green and silver jerseys with one of a midnight green hue. Then, the Birds started winning, and they won a lot. That's when it hit most of us. Maybe those dark green jerseys aren't that bad at all!
Jeffrey Lurie earns his 300th win as the Eagles CEO and Chairman.
How about that regular season? Philly just put the bow on one of the most impressive campaigns in Eagles history. Last season, the regular-season finale was one of the sour moments of an epic collapse. That one doubled as a loss to the hated New York Giants. This time around, Week 18 brought a different and more favorable result.
Resting the starters, Philly's second-string offense and defense (and their third-string QB) outlasted Big Blue for a 20-13 win. Ainias Smith scored his first career TD. Shortly afterward, E.J. Jenkins did the same.
The boss reached a new milestone too. This win was Lurie's 300th as the Eagles' owner (that includes postseason wins). He deserves that. He's brought us so much joy you know?
Seven NFC Championship Game appearances... Five were in Philadelphia... Three Super Bowl appearances... One Super Bowl win... That's the current tally since he bought the Birds 30 years ago, and look! He even brought the beloved kelly green jerseys back!
Name a better NFL owner or one that is better at pleasing his fans. Don't worry. We'll wait. We've been through a lot as Birds fans. Things could be better. They could be worse, but we'll take our chances with Jeffrey Lurie. He's earned that. He's certainly earned our love and trust.
